3/30/2009 update

Plans are going ahead for a massive Catholic presence in South Bend.

That needs to be top priority for everyone.

Here's some additional contacts who have authority over the University and Fr. Jenkins, the source is Cardinal George's reply to one of our parishioners:

I am writing in reply to the e-mail you sent me about the University of Notre Dame’s decision to invite President Barack Obama to deliver its commencement address this May and to award him an honorary degree on this occasion. Your comments, while appreciated, are misdirected; the University of Notre Dame is not located within the Archdiocese of Chicago and I have no authority over it, either as Archbishop of Chicago or as President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

I suggest that you might direct your correspondence to the following bodies and individuals that, in different degrees, do have jurisdiction over Notre Dame University:

Board of Trustees

University of Notre Dame
Notre Dame, Indiana 46556

Rev. David T. Tyson, C.S.C.

Thank you for writing. May God bless you and those you love.

Sincerely yours,

Francis Cardinal George, OMI Archbishop of Chicago
